Out with the New, in with the Ancient!

Biblonians,

What a pleasure it has been to explore over 20 New Testament apocrypha with you all and with my co-host, Peter! From ancient laser vision to a journey through hell to heaven, and so much more, we laughed at some of the most bizarre stories and learned a lot about how ordinary Christians (and heretics!) thought about the New Testament.

As I reflect on the many ways in which Christian culture today assumes themes and stories found in the New Testament Apocrypha, I'm blown away! Even when it comes to Christmas: the fact that most Christians remember Jesus being born in a cave with an ox and ass can be traced right back to New Testament Apocryphal stories. The whole experience made me think about how much Christians today think very similarly to our siblings from 1,000+ years ago on the other side of the planet. In fact, the skeptical teacher from the Old Testament Wisdom text shares this sentiment:

"What has been done—it is what will be done." — Ecclesiastes 1.9 (LEB)

This is no different in history, philosophy, theology, or any thought in general. Still, it has been a joy and delight to share my own findings (or "re-findings" in light of this reflection) with you all.

In addition to reflecting on what we've seen in the Biblonian Season 4, it is almost just as astounding to consider how much we've grown. This season, we accomplished the following:

• 50 episodes uploaded

• 500 listens to the Podcast

• Transition to a new co-host for the upcoming season

As our season on the New Testament Apocrypha becomes old, I'd like to announce new season of the Biblonian: Ancient Near Eastern Mythology. We'll kick off the new season on the first Sunday of Advent this year. I discuss this and even more coming up of the what's to come in the newest podcast episode--so make sure to give it a quick listen! While we go silent, remember to Bible on!
